There's Only One Beth Kephart

Last night I attended the launch party for Beth Kephart's fourteenth book, SMALL DAMAGES. I've already gushed and drooled over this novel here. Quite frankly, it was one of the most breathtakingly written novels I've ever had the pleasure to read.

Beth's event was held at the Radnor Memorial Library in Wayne, PA, a place where, after hearing her introductions, Beth is deeply loved and admired. I can relate. Beth Kephart is one of those rare people who actually see you the very first time she looks into your eyes. She's genuine, real, and sincere.

The room was filled with people Beth has loved and who love her back. Two fans actually drove from Ohio - that's a twelve hour drive - just to help her celebrate this book. Speaking of celebration, there was cake and punch, sunflowers and smiles, books and recipes. Yes, recpies. Estela, one of the characters in SMALL DAMAGES, is a phenomenal Spanish cook--it's what she does, who she is--and Beth had recipe cards created with the recipe for Estela's Pears Al Horno.

Beth looked lovely. The room was stuffed with support and admiration. The air smelled of cake. Congratulations to Beth Kephart! And to anyone out there who hasn't read SMALL DAMAGES, get thee to a bookstore and turn those gorgeously written pages. You will think about Kenzie long after you finish--it's that kind of book.

oh my gosh, Kate. how lucky I am to know you. Thank you for being there. Thank you for these pictures — for I forgot to take any images until the very very end. Thank you for everything. Truly.

Thanks so much for the recap. I was at the launch at the Radnor library for Dangerous Neighbors, but being in Pittsburgh now, couldn't make it to this one. (Although the Ohio people are putting me to shame! :) Great pictures and fabulous post.

What a wonderful post, Kate!! Wasn't it a Magical night? I'm one of those wild and crazy Ohio ladies who so enjoyed being in the presence of greatness for a day, first at Chanticleer and then with you all at the "Small Damages" party. [I have adored Beth from afar for some time so was a bit dazed by her many kindnesses and apologize for not mingling and meeting you. Next time!!]

I see over there at the bottom right corner (along with your lovely face) that you have some books of your own - and will be looking for "Cracked" and watching for "Empty" to come out!

Patti: I can only wish that I have fans as dedicated as you some day! I know Beth was humbled by your journey. And I sincerely hope you enjoy Cracked and Empty!
